Porcelain Veneers

Cosmetic Dentistry
Porcelain veneers can beautify your smile.

Porcelain veneers are used to cosmetically enhance and transform the appearance of a smile permanently. A veneer is made of thin, customized porcelain that is artistically crafted to a desirable color and shape. They are strong when bonded to the surface of the natural teeth to reshape broken, misshapen, or crooked teeth, as well as provide a solution for discolored teeth that do not respond to traditional whitening treatments. Patients with veneers achieve a natural tooth appearance that is well-tolerated by the gums and resistant to future stains.

We love beautiful straight smiles. We will always talk to you about occlusion and improving your bite with Invisalign prior to extensive cosmetic work with porcelain veneers or crowns. We find that teeth that mesh together well wear better and last longer than misaligned teeth with drifting contacts. We don’t just want your smile to look great the day you receive your veneers. We want it to last a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions About Porcelain Veneers

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells that bond to the front of the teeth to improve their shape, size, color, and overall appearance. They are commonly used to address chips, gaps, stubborn discoloration, and minor alignment concerns.

How do porcelain veneers work?

Porcelain veneers cover the front surface of the teeth with a custom-crafted layer of dental porcelain. Each veneer is shaped and shaded in a dental lab to match your goals and the surrounding teeth, so stained, worn, or uneven teeth look bright and even again. The natural tooth underneath stays largely intact.

How are veneers placed on the teeth?

After any planning visits involving digital impressions and photos.  Porcelain veneers are placed over two visits at our West Bloomfield practice:

  1. A small amount of enamel is gently shaped from the front of the teeth
  2. A digital scan or impression is taken
  3. Temporary veneers are placed while the permanent ones are crafted
  4. At the second visit, the veneers are checked for fit, color, and shape
  5. The veneers are bonded into place

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years and often longer with good care. Daily brushing and flossing, routine cleanings, and avoiding habits like nail biting or using teeth as tools all help protect them.

What is an alternative to veneers?

Smaller cosmetic concerns can often be addressed with Bioclear or professional teeth whitening, both of which involve less change to the natural tooth. Dr. Fienman will work with you to better understand which option fits your goals and your smile.
